Epsom Salt, Colored Water, and Volcanoes

This one started off pretty simple with just some Epsom salt in the sensory bin and these $1 spray bottles filled with water and food coloring. She loved coloring the salts and touching them. I have to admit it did feel really cool! But then she started talking about how the red salt looked like lava, (she has an obsession with volcanoes lately) and Daddy heard her. And like all daddies he heard mention of something explosive and decided to join in!

Squeezing the sprayer on these bottles is a good hand workout :)

A few minutes later Daddy comes out of the kitchen and asks Caity if she wanted to make a volcano. She loved this idea and started jumping up and down.

So if you want to try this too, you will need:

A container to be the volcano (we used this plastic carafe without the lid)

Baking Soda

Vinegar

Food Coloring (optional)

Caitlyn sprayed some red colored water into the carafe and then poured in some Baking Soda

Then we added some Vinegar. You have to make sure to put enough in or you won't get a proper reaction, it will just kind of fizzle out. So just pour it in until you see it getting wild, lol.

She wasn't happy about the "lava" not being red enough, so she fixed that!

We repeated this about four times and used all of my Baking Soda and Vinegar up. Big success :)
